Independent Contractors and Hourly Employees

MTL Companies is always looking for qualified independent contractors and hourly employees. Whether you have your own truck or would like to get into the business through our leasing program, we’d like to discuss a possible partnership.

Types of vehicles desired:

  • Cars
  • Trucks
  • Vans
  • Dock Trucks
  • Flatbeds
  • Day cabs

Independent contractor requirements:

  • Appropriate license for your vehicle based on gross vehicle weight (GVW)
  • Hazardous materials endorsements for Class A and Class B licenses preferred
  • Clean driving history (You must provide a three-year driving record.)
  • Federal tax ID
  • Current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card
  • Criminal background check
  • Minimum requirement of 100/300/50 liability insurance
  • Enrollment in our Master Transfer uniform program
  • Proficiency with handheld communication devices for receiving delivery information

Vehicle Requirements:

  • Truck must be less than six years old and white in color
  • Truck must be free of visible rust and damage
  • Dock trucks must be 24 or 26 feet long with a lift gate
  • Independent contractors must have DOT-required safety equipment
  • Independent contractors must supply pallet jacks, straps, load bars and blankets
  • Vehicle will have a Master Transfer logo at the Master Transfer’s expense

Account Representative – Sales

Come work for the fastest-growing on-demand transportation company in the Twin Cities. MTL Companies is seeking an aggressive, motivated transportation sales professional. Your earning potential is only limited by your desire to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop new business through cold calls, networking and industry activities
  • Maintain a book of businesses within an assigned territory
  • Travel extensively throughout assigned local metro territories
  • Identify new opportunities within existing accounts
  • Meet revenue objectives
  • Work closely with operations to implement new accounts
  • Participate in industry organizations like the Transportation Club, Minnesota Trucking Association and others
  • Resolve customer issues by working with administration and support staff

Qualifications:

  • Two years of relevant work experience within the transportation industry is preferred
  • Basic computer skills — proficiency with Word, Excel, Internet, ACT and customer relationship management (CRM) systems
  • Results-oriented
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of the Twin Cities’ industrial areas
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills

Compensation:

  • Base salary plus commission
